CRANIOFACIAL DEVELOPMENT, GROWTH AND EVOLUTION - Murray C Meikle

ISBN 0 9542338 0 8

1st Publication 1st April 2002

European Journal of Orthodontics - Irma Thesleff, extract

......Murray Meikle has taken a more demanding job when he decided to combine craniofacial developmental biology with growth, evolution and clinical relevance.  There is, however, no doubt that this book in its present form serves an important purpose.

......I believe that clinicians will find this book exciting and stimulating.

......It is fairly easy reading and browsing it is pleasant as the different chapters are independent and can be read in any order.

New Zealand Dental Journal - Jules Kaiser, extract

The later decades of the 20th Century have seen a dazzling increase in the ability of researchers to make observations of genes and their effects during craniofacial development.  This link between older theories of the ontogeny, growth and evolution of the head on the one hand, and the latest molecular biological discoveries on the other, is the main theme of this book.

Murray Meikle......has written a superb book in an informal style and breadth of coverage that make it a joy to read.

......The book begins with a whirlwind tour of early craniofacial development, cell adhesion and the biology of skeletal tissues. We are then treated to splendidly lucid explanations and discussions of a wide range of topics relevant to understanding the embryology of the craniofacial region.

......Along the way Meikle draws history, genetics, biochemistry and clinical relevance into his discussion and in case we are floored by some of the complex new pathways or theories, he treats us to an astonishing number of superb colour illustrations and diagrams.
